Overview

Backlog Shuffle ("we", "us", "our") is operated by Seimeis LLC. We built this app for gamers who want to actually play their backlog, not just stare at it. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it. We keep things minimal — we collect what we need and nothing more.

Information We Collect

Steam Account Data

When you sign in with Steam, we receive your Steam ID, display name, and avatar URL from Valve's OpenID service. We do not receive your Steam password, friends list, or any private Steam account details. Your Steam ID is never exposed in our public API.

Game Library Data

When you sync your library, we fetch your game titles and cumulative playtime (in minutes) via the Steam Web API and store them on our servers. We also record how many times you've launched a game through Backlog Shuffle, the last time you launched, and whether you've marked a game as completed.

Email Addresses (optional)

We may store up to two email addresses on your account:

Contact email — provided voluntarily by you. Used for account notifications and, if you opt in, marketing communications.
Billing email — provided by Stripe during checkout. Used exclusively for transactional emails: subscription confirmations, billing updates, and payment failure notices.

We never sell or share your email address with third parties for advertising purposes. You can view and manage both email addresses from your Settings page.

Analytics (opt-in)

If you accept analytics cookies, we use PostHog to collect anonymous usage data — page views, feature interactions, and session information. This data helps us understand how people use the app. No personal data is sold or shared with advertisers. You can opt out at any time on the Cookies page.

Billing Data

Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. We store a Stripe customer ID and subscription ID on our servers solely to manage your Pro subscription status.

How We Use Your Data

To provide and operate the Backlog Shuffle service
To sync and display your Steam game library
To manage your Pro subscription and process payments via Stripe
To send transactional emails related to your account or subscription
To send marketing emails about new features and updates (only with your explicit opt-in)
To improve the product using aggregated, anonymised analytics (only if you've consented)

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your data with any third party except those listed below and only to the extent necessary to operate the service.

Marketing Communications

We will only send marketing emails if you have explicitly opted in. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also toggle your marketing preference at any time from your Settings page. Billing-related emails (receipts, subscription changes, payment failures) are not considered marketing and will be sent regardless of your marketing preference, as they are necessary to operate your subscription.

Marketing emails may contain a tracking pixel that tells us whether the email was opened, and links that are routed through our email provider (Resend) to measure clicks. You can disable image loading in your email client to prevent open tracking, or unsubscribe to stop receiving marketing emails entirely.

Third-Party Services

Valve / Steam

Authentication and game library data. We use the Steam OpenID and Web APIs to sign you in and sync your library.

Stripe

Payment processing for Backlog Shuffle Pro subscriptions. Stripe handles all card data; we never see your payment details.

PostHog

Product analytics. Only active if you've accepted analytics cookies. Collects anonymous usage events to help us improve the app.

Resend

Email delivery. Used for transactional emails (billing, verification) and marketing emails (if opted in). Marketing emails may include an open-tracking pixel and click-tracked links so we can measure engagement and improve what we send.

Data Retention

Your account and game library data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you'd like your data deleted, contact us at [email protected] and we'll remove your account and all associated data within 30 days.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate data
Request deletion of your account and data
Opt out of analytics cookies at any time
Unsubscribe from marketing emails via any email's unsubscribe link or your Settings page

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of Backlog Shuffle after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
