The Problem with Too Many Games

It sounds strange, but choice paralysis is incredibly real among gamers who, like me, have been accumulating massive libraries thanks to deep discounted sales. While money plays a big role, the main issue is time management—trying to carve out the schedule to actually play all of those digital goodies.

The Why

Working a 9-to-5 meant that by the time I got home to relax, I had to figure out what game to play based on how much time and energy I could afford to give.

  • Decision Fatigue: Even though I had the income to buy new releases or stock up on missed classics, I was often too drained from work or other obligations to make a choice.
  • The Default: Sometimes, the sheer effort of choosing meant I wouldn’t start a game at all, and I'd end up burning my free time mindlessly watching YouTube videos instead.
  • The Flawed Solutions: I looked at a plethora of existing backlog management tools, but they all felt like a second, unpaid job. Jotting down notes, keeping a calendar, or manually tracking progress for every single game didn't make me feel better about my time; it just added to my mental load.

Creating BacklogShuffle to Manage My Backlog

I wanted something that saved my time, not exhausted it. So, I built BacklogShuffle. My dream was to make everything “just work” for me. We live in a world where AI is everywhere, so I asked myself: How can we use AI to actually burn through my backlog? The answer clicked during a walk through my neighborhood when I stopped by my local library:

  • The Librarian Epiphany: We often underestimate the value of a human encyclopedia—the ability to ask a librarian for a very specific resource and get the perfect answer quickly. I realized an AI librarian for gaming would be exactly what I needed.
  • The AI Curator: I built a curator that learns from your current backlog and finds the absolute best game for you to play next.
  • The Core Goal: No manual lists. Just capture my vibe, check my available time, and hand me something I actually want to play.
  • The Real Savings: By playing what’s already in your backlog, you save money instead of just building an even bigger pile of unplayed games. You also save time by focusing on playing rather than searching or managing lists.

The Steam Backlog

The app is launching first with Steam integration, with plans to add more platforms to make managing your true, cross-platform library completely automated. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy shuffling your library and finally getting real value back from the games you’ve accumulated.
